New ribbon plating line for the continuous plating with platinum from a molten salt bath put into operation!

The high temperature electrolysis area of Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH starts production in a new ribbon plating line.
The line equipped with the latest control and reeling systems serves to support the existing ribbon plating line. On the continuously working reel-to-reel line, thin molybdenum ribbons are plated with ultra-pure platinum. The ribbons are plated using the Umicore HTE process. Dense, highly ductile platinum layers are produced in this way which exhibit high adhesion and corrosion resistance on all refractory substrates. The molybdenum ribbons are mainly used in the lighting industry as contact material resistant to high temperatures and oxidation. Other refractory metals such as tungsten, titanium and tantalum but also high alloy steel ribbons for many different applications can be plated with platinum in the new ribbon plating line as well.
