"What do you do all day at Umicore?"
On Kids Day enthusiastic kids can get to know where their parents work.
"What does my dad’s or mom’s office look like? What kinds of things does my mom need to do her daily work? Who is my dad’s boss?" Answers to these and many other similar questions were given to the children of Umicore employees at the second Umicore Kids Day one Friday afternoon in April. Many small and bigger guests accepted the invitation, many of whom took part in the first Kids Day in 2009 and were looking forward to visiting mom’s or dad’s work again. All the children met in the cafeteria for the welcome address given by Mr. Karl Hieber from Umicore’s management. Afterwards, each child went with his/her mom or dad to the working area. Offices and various working areas were looked at, colleagues and bosses were visited, e-mails were written, microscopes were used, sample sheet plates were examined, and many, many questions were answered.
Finally, everybody met back in the cafeteria to conclude this enjoyable afternoon together with prepared treats. All the children and young people were rewarded with a certificate and a "Kids Day T-shirt" for their eager participation before they went home with their parents quite content and with many new impressions.
